After the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull some people think that the whole land is covered with ash and that Iceland is in a state of emergency. The truth is that only a very small part of Iceland is being influenced by the eruption. This is quite a challenge for the Icelandic tourism industry. Hence, the industry teamed up and created a wonderful campaign: Inspired by Iceland.

Online advertising ‘overtakes TV’ (UK)

Online advertising spending in the UK has overtaken television expenditure for the first time, a report has said. Online spending grew 4.6% to £1.752bn in the first half of 2009, while TV spending shrank 16.1% to £1.639bn. […]

Quite impressive to see that companies spent more on online advertisement than on the TV channel. Justin Pearse from NMA pointed out that this overtake is mainly due to the stormy times companies currently face. However, in the end what really matters is the effectiveness of every spent pound.

Burger King campaign: Whopper Virgins

Burger King has launched a new campaign/”documentary” for which a whole team travelled around the world to find Whopper Virgins – people who have never been exposed to hamburgers. The interesting part are the pictures and the authentic people, however, I do not see that this is very beneficial for Burger King – much effort for little output.

Meet the world

Icaro Doria is Brazilian, 25 and has been working for the magazine Grande Reportagem, in Lisbon, Portugal, for the last 3 years. He is part of the team (with Luis Silva Dias, João Roque, Andrea Vallenti and João Roque) that produced the flags campaign which has been circulating the Earth in chain letters via e-mail.
